Garmin Connect doesn’t recognize Commuting Activty on Edge as commute

I have one activity on my Edge set to commuting.
If i record a ride with it, Strava recognizes the ride as a commute. Garmin Connect doesn’t, there i have to set the event type to commute by hand.
How did this happen? The Edge seems to set the commuting flag in the .fit file

Connect simply does not support this sub sport (yet)

Exactly right, as evidenced by the response received from product support today.

  • Which model exactly? It works all right with Instinct 3.

  • I’ve noticed the same issue with my Epix (Gen 2) watch, which does have the "Bike Commute" activity profile. It seems that some Garmin devices record the commute sub-sport correctly and upload it to Garmin Connect as intended, as trux mentioned. However, with others, even if there’s a Bike Commute profile, Garmin Connect still uploads it as a general cycling activity.

The problem is that Garmin Connect doesn’t consistently use the commuting subsport to classify activities, even when the subsport is included in the FIT file...

If the subsport doesn’t sync properly, I believe that the only solution is to fix it manually in Garmin Connect and then report the issue to Garmin Product Support. I just did for my case.

  •  I will be sending you an email in order to collect additional information in order to review this issue further.

  • On my Instinct 3, Bike Commute works as expected, and saves with the correct activity type in Connect.

I apologize, I was probably not yet properly awake. In fact it only saves with the expected title, but the type of the activity is just Cycling, just as others reported.

Respectively, the file saves OK, with the right "commuting" sub_sport ID (48), but current Connect simply does not support this sub sport (yet)
