Acute training load dropping to zero despite daily training

My Acute Training Load occasionally drops to zero for no apparent reason, even though I have been training almost daily.
I’m trying to understand if this is a bug or if something in my device setup could be causing it.

My Primary device is the F7X.
Running and swimming are recorded directly with the watch.
Cycling is recorded either on Zwift or with a Edge 1040.

When I ride on Zwift, I do not wear the watch. I wait for the activity to fully sync via Garmin Connect and with the F7X before wearing the watch again, so the training data should already be in both.

Since most of my training sessions are recorded directly with the Fenix 7X, I wouldn’t expect the Acute Training Load to drop like that.

The activities and exercise load shows correctly, even in the days the acute load problem occurs.

Has anyone else experienced this behavior or knows what might cause it?

  • How does the HRV Status look like in that concerned period(s)? If you do not wear the watch at night, or if it did not record HRV, then the baseline drops to zero.

Why Is My Training Status Not Updating on My Garmin Device? | Garmin Customer Support

  • Hi trux,

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I do wear the watch at night and my HRV status appears to be updating normally.
Below are a few examples comparing my HRV data with the Acute Training Load during the periods when the issue occurred.

On February 19th (the one highlighted above), for example, I had a 1h20 swim session in the morning (Base - Low Aerobic) and a 1h45 bike session at night (Threshold - High Aerobic).

My HRV was updated and my HR data was recorded throughout the entire day. Despite that, my Acute Training Load still shows zero.

  • OK, the HRV is indeed all right. There are some other possibilities for the issue you experience. In the case you do not use a recent firmware on your Fenix 7, also the VO2max value is necessary, so if there was no recent VO2max update, it could have that effect too. Another possibility is a reset to factory defaults, or a mishap during a firmware update resetting the Training Status baseline. And yet another possible cause could be having multiple Garmin Connect accounts accidentally associated with the watch. In that case removing the watch from Connect and then adding it back would help, but only with future data.

If nothing of it helps explaining and/or helping with the problem, I recommend reaching out to the product Support.
