As a long-term user of the Edge series (currently on Edge 1040), I frequently use the device for complex route planning and tracking. Based on discussions within my local cycling community, I’d like to propose some workflow improvements that would greatly enhance the experience for those of us who rely on custom waypoints.
1. Streamlined Waypoint Recording (On-Device)
- Currently, saving a location during a ride requires too many steps.
- Request: Please allow us to map "Save Location" to a remote button (Edge Remote or Di2 hoods) or add it to the Quick Menu for instant access. This is essential for marking unmarked terrain features like small hills or trail objects.
2. Synchronizing Saved Waypoints with Garmin Connect
- Points saved on the device are currently only visible on the unit itself.
- Request: Make these saved waypoints available as a toggleable "reference layer" in the Garmin Connect Course Creator. This would allow for much higher precision when placing Course Points during the planning phase.
3. Map Screen UI & "Next Point" Visibility
- We often use custom Course Points to track distances during a ride, but their names are buried in a separate data screen.
- Request: Add a dedicated data field (or a top-of-map overlay) showing the name of the next Course Point.
- UI Suggestion: To save space, please consider making the zoom/scroll icons on the map optional or "touch-to-reveal," similar to the Edge 1030's layout.
4. Map Detail in Connect
- The current OSM layer in the Connect web planner lacks the detail found on other OSM-based platforms like Mapy.cz. An upgrade here would be a game-changer for off-road navigation.
