Sync issue between Forerunner 945 and Edge 840: training load becomes inconsistent

Hi,

I mainly use a Forerunner 945 for my training, and occasionally an Edge 840 for cycling. Whenever I sync the Edge 840, the training load in Garmin Connect becomes inconsistent: values get overwritten or altered.

I haven’t found any option to set the Forerunner 945 as the primary training device, so that the training load is calculated from the watch instead of the bike computer.

The only workaround I see is to sync the Edge 840 manually every day, even on days when I don’t use it, but that’s not a viable solution. Considering the price of these devices, I expect the automatic sync to work properly.

Has anyone experienced this issue or found a solution?

Thanks in advance.

  • Thanks for the post,  . To set your Forerunner 945 as the Primary Training Device, use the steps in this Support Center article: Garmin Connect: Setting Your Primary Training Device

Once that's been set, let us know how it goes with your training load.

  • Hello,
I don't have this parameter. The problem is that I can't switch from my Edge 840 to my Forerunner 945.

  • When using an Edge device together with a watch it is very important that you let the Edge sync before each ride to download the current training status. That means that before each ride you must start the Edge, make sure it syncs. Look at the training load value in the Edge to see that it updates and stabilize. When it stops updating everything is updated and you can go on your ride.

One issue here is that I think that 945 and 840 use different training status algorithms so they will always be more or less different.

  • When syncing my Edge before a ride, it recalculates training load but appears to only consider the last activity. This incorrect load then syncs to Garmin Connect, overwriting the data recorded by my watch."
