Moving Time?

Have been enjoying exploring the new features in the recent update, especially liking having elevation correction and the ability to edit summary data.

One query though regarding Moving Time. How is this calculated? I know it is supposed to be the total elapsed time minus any 'stopped' time, but yesterday I went for a short run and uploaded it so that I could check out the data in the 'new' Garmin Connect. I know that I ran continuously for 25 minutes (24:59 according to my device, TC and GC) but my Moving Time is given as 24:32. I don't know where the other 27 seconds went?! I was running the entire time on a route where there are no stops for traffic etc. Any ideas?

It is my understanding that "moving time" is calculated using gps readings. The device subtracts from your 24:59 the amount of time that, per gps, it THINKS you were standing still. I would wager a guess that your 27 seconds is due to the margin of error associated with gps in general.

Just go with the 24:59 information.

    Data recording

A couple of ideas to check:

    1. On the 305, under General-->Data Recording, there are two options (Smart Recording and Every Second). I think if you want the most accuracy, you would want to choose "Every Second" recording (but that is limited to 3.5 hours of total recording).

    2. Under Training Options-->Auto Pause there are a couple of options for tuning when the device will sense that you are stopped. I know I originally had problems with the 305 sensing that I was stopped too often when I was not. In speaking to support I set the "Auto Time Pause"-->Custom Speed AND the "Pause When"-->0.4 m/h which seems to work acceptably for my needs.

Anyone know if these settings is available on the 405CX?
  • I think one of my actvities had an issue with this. I know i ran a very hilly 10km in 43 od mins and i stopped twice inside the first 4km but no other time did i stop. I notice now my moving time is 27 mins?!

Look at the "player" screen for your activity. It indicates a total distance of 25 miles, with actual activity for 6.1 miles (your 10k).

Does that give you any clues?
