Birth date in User Settings can't be set nor changed

Hello!

My wife and I have encountered a bug when trying to change our birthdays. We tried updating the info via the web, Android, and iOS apps, but none of them saved the changes.

My wife just got a Vivoactive 6 as her first Garmin and created a new account. Although she entered her birthday during the initial setup, it doesn’t show up on the web portal at all. Even after updating it through the apps or the website and clicking save, the information disappears as soon as the page is reloaded.

To see if this was a widespread issue, I tried updating the birthday on my own account (which I’ve had for a couple of years). I experienced the exact same problem: after saving the changes and reloading the app or page, my birth date reverts to the original setting and doesn't save the update.

This issue is present in both apps and the web so is problably more related with the api and not clients. We tried in IOs App, Android App and the Connect Web without luck.

Is there any workaround or fix for this? For me is not a problem but for my Wife her metrics are off since she can't set any birth day.

  • I have same issue. I get a request to fill in my date of birth and it is set in a random date and year - and I can’t even fill nor change it with my accurate date of birth. That means I can’t even access my Garmin connect app and see my data. This is extremely frustrating and unsatisfying. I need you to fix that bug immediately- because at the moment I feel my watch is completely useless if I can’t even access my data on the app nor on browser!

  • Alarmed by this thread, I checked my personal details and saw that Garmin had changed my date of birth to a different date without asking me or obtaining my consent (account profile on the website, not in the Android app).
Does Garmin have the legal right to do this?
I can no longer change the date back to the correct one myself.

    Update: Answer Support:
This did happen because of a programming error in the app. We apologise for this. It will be resolved as soon as possible.
It is probably due to an update last week, when our “child” accounts went live and from that moment on, the date could no longer be changed.
From that moment on, the date of birth could no longer be changed and something went wrong with that transition.
From what I have heard, this should be fixed within 24 hours.

  • Well it’s been longer than 24 hours and I am still unable to change my own birthdate to reflect the right age. This is insane, what a stupid thing to happen to so many just to lose the high regard and respect we have for Garmin. I have multiple Garmin electronics and if this is an example of future decisions impacting your loyal and hopefully new customer base my money will go to those that support their business and customers better.

  • So sweet. On garmin.com, my birth date is now off by one day compared to the Connect app. I don't even know how to apply your standard excuses like "data migration between servers" or "syncing issues" to this one. It's just wrong.

  • Had the same problem, but was able to change it on the watch.

  • Not sure why they disconnected the ability to correct personal information such as birthday. It is super annoying as mine is wrong ,  but only by a week, so not a big deal for metrics.

  • I have at least two examples where users have completely different birthdays (for example, women aged 30 years, which of course didn't go unnoticed, since the fitness age widget is on the home screen). And it wouldn't be a big deal if this happened before a certain date; it just happens and continues to happen now.

  • I have called that number multiple times and there is no option provided to make any changes to my profile. Additionally when I do press a random option to try and speak with a person my wait time is between 20 to 30 minutes. I'm sure you can't do anything about this personally yet wanted you to know that getting a date of birth change through you all is arduous and dysfunctional at best.

  • That's exactly what we're talking about. By the way, there's an article on the support website support.garmin.com/.../ that explicitly states that changing your date of birth and region of use is not possible. And all those pop-up banners in the app or on the website that say, "Hey, contact support," are nothing more than a sham at the moment. No one can do anything.

P.S. Meanwhile, the number of cases where a user's date suddenly changes randomly is only growing. What a mess.
