Importing weight metrics from other apps into Garmin

I’d like to know if there is any way to import weight metrics from other applications into Garmin.

For example, I use an app that works with Health Connect, and I’m able to send Garmin data to that app, but I can’t do the reverse — meaning I’m unable to register or sync weight data into Garmin from external sources.

Is there any supported integration, workaround, or method to:

  • Import weight data from third-party apps?

  • Automatically sync weight metrics without having to enter them manually in Garmin?

  • There are couple of ways available:

    1. Weight data may be imported through a CSV file, on the page https://connect.garmin.com/app/import-data
    2. Weight data is synced automatically between Garmin Connect and MyFitnessPal, in both ways. MyFitnessPal has an interface to diverse scales, and also to some other 3rd party apps. As far as I remember it works with the free MFP account.
    3. There are 3rd party apps capable of syncing weight (and other health data) among multiple services, although these apps usually require a paid subscription.
    4. If you own a Garmin Index scale, it syncs the eight data to Garmin Connect automatically.
  • My issue was specifically with this integration:

Weight data used to be synced automatically between Garmin Connect and MyFitnessPal, in both directions. MyFitnessPal also has integrations with several smart scales and some other third-party apps. As far as I remember, this worked even with a free MyFitnessPal account.

However, after enabling and accepting Garmin’s Nutrition feature, Garmin disabled the connection with MyFitnessPal. As a result, the weight data that used to flow through that mechanism stopped syncing.

Is there any way to restore or recover that data flow, or to reconnect Garmin Connect with MyFitnessPal so that historical and future weight data can continue syncing as before?

  • Sorry, I have no idea. I do not use Connect+, so cannot test it. If leaving the Connect+ Nutrition does help reestablishing the link with MFP, then I am afraid the only solution to get it back, is by creating a new GC account, and avoiding its built-in nutrition feature. If not that, then a 3rd party app may help (not free though). You can also request an integration with Health Connect from Garmin through the form at Share Ideas | Garmin, but I'd not be too optimistic about them doing it.

  • I've seen a couple of reports that stopping the connection to Connect from within MFP and then re-initiating it resolves the MFP-to-Connect link but I don't think there is any way of getting it to sync in the other direction.
