"Out & Back" works for me. I couldn't duplicate your issue. Which map, drawing method, course type and routing options are you using?

Yeah Out and back would work for that type of course however not something like this

I'm guessing you don't want to backtrack around the lake again.

Create the course until it comes back to itself.

Then on the watch start the course. It will end when you come around that lake. Start the same course again but this time in reverse. It will find the course and navigate you back to start.

Another solution is to tell the watch to go back to start with backtrack, but don't follow it back around the lake again. It should find where you are along the course after about 50 meters.

Out & Back will simply reverse your route to take you back to the starting point, including looping around the lake again. Ase7andy suggested, you could use your Garmin device to guide you back along the correct route to the start. Alternatively, you could try plotaroute.com, which offers a “rejoin route home” feature that does exactly what you need.

Thanks for the help!, Typically I do not route anything that is less than 50 miles and want to keep it as all one ride. Not broken up into different rides by restarting.  I am using a Edge 530 Bike computer. The Plotaroute looks like the correct solution.  Unfortunately there are some significant bottlenecks with creating routes to stay off of dangerous roads in my area. This often requires a out and back on specific routes to get to areas that have a lot more flexibility in routing. 

You don't have to break it up into different rides. Just start a new course without stopping the ride. You can stop and start courses at any time without affecting the logging of the ride.
