Looking up usernames to see run stats?

Former Member

Hello,

I have a garmin 310XT & I am curious as to how I can look up fellow runners stats for the day? We all set our profiles to public & I know the usernames but I can not see the results of the run for that day unless its posted say on "facebook through a link".

How can I see my friends runs for that day? I saw the 225 ways to share, do we just have to use one of thoses & can't search by username?

Thanks,

You Will Be Sorry You Asked

The simple answer is Yes, you can search by Username. The actual answer is NO because Garmin has screwed up this feature so badly that it is almost impossible to figure it out and even worse to try and use it. Below is what I managed to figure out but I do not expect anybody else will attempt such an agonizing process.

To get started you have to know, within a 4-5 square mile area, where each user started riding. That right there is the dumbest criteria requirement anyone could possibly think of but that is the way it is setup. So in GC you must open Explore > Activities and zoom around first to city and state and then keep zooming in on streets until you think you've got it right and then click search

Now, if you are lucky, a list of ride names will pop up on the left. No username, no location, just someones made up name that you are going to have to know or you will have to painstakingly open each ride until you find your user's name in blue in the upper left under the date .

Now don't give up...we are getting close to the point where you can search by username...isn't this just exactly how MotionBased worked? No? Well Garmin thinks this is just fine and you guys are just a bunch of whinners.

So....now just click that blue username and presto....all the rides for that user pop up on the left and you have now done a ride search by username!!!

Of course you have absolutely NO clue where those rides are on the map so you will have to mouse around on the map icons and see which icon goes with which ride on the left and then open it to find out if it's the one you are interested in but there you go whinning again...jeez.

Also if you hit the wrong button, and there are several, the back button is a wrong button for sure, you will lose everything and be sent back to Norway to start all over.

I recommend you just email each other a link to your ride
  • Or, check out runsaturday.com. It's free, and it has a lot of the functionality, including social networking, that Garmin Connect doesn't have. Keeping track of friends is simple on runsaturday.com.
  • You can use the RSS link to your friend: http://connect.garmin.com/feed/rss/activities?feedname=A&owner=username

Unfortunately it only contains the activities with GPS data.
