...where it stays 30 seconds or so, then goes thru the "loading maps" sequence and then returns to the map it had displayed before all this started. Timing between episodes is erratic. Can be every five minutes for awhile.....and the next wont happen until a hundred miles down the road.
The problem is coincident with downloading my recently purchased lifetime streets and maps....it never did this when the 'old' streets and maps from the factory remained installed.
Thinking perhaps the download of the new maps was corrupted, went thru the five hour process of downloading and reinstalling everything again.
Same problem. I prefer not to waste my two remaining downloads in further attempts to fix this.
Anybody with a handle on what this problem is? I see a LOT of questions on these forums get a lot of reads, but no replies....even old ones. Would appreciate it if someone would at least make a stab at solving my riddle.
Also, my apologies if this is the wrong forum to place this question. I suspect it MAY be....as all the major headings for forums available seem to be Sports related. Would appreciate a link to the proper forums if there is one.
On further search found possible answer. By going to garmin.com and entering my device, found this:
Question: Why is the Car Charger (12v Cable) making the nuvi go into mass storage mode when connected to external power?
Answer:
When a nuvi is connected to external 12v power via USB and then goes into mass storage mode (picture of a nuvi connected to a PC), this could be caused by the following reasons:
The charger is not connected to the correct port. Some devices have a USB port or an additional USB port for and should not be used as a 12v connection:
Connection to a PC
Traffic Receiver
The 12v cable could be damaged or a third party cable that is not compatible with the Garmin nuvi that it is being used on.
By running the nuvi on battery only for a few minutes the "problem" did not happen, so likely a bad power cord happened coincidentally with downloading new maps. So I will buy a new cord and try that.
I still, however, would appreciate a link to the proper forum for posts about road gear such as the nuvi 205w.
