Offline mode for garmin connect on mobile

Recently, there have been problems with external service providers - AWS, Cloudflare, it would be useful to be able to synchronize the watch and sensors with the phone in an offline version - currently, the application is useless without constant access to the Internet, which is a bit strange and dangerous because it is enough for one external service provider to influence millions of device users

  • You can use Garmin Express for some limited offline functionality. I am afraid there is no way Garmin will make all the functionality of Garmin Connect available offline.

  • This does not address your precise use case of having offline activity syncing and viewing in the Connect app, but regarding the related issue of Garmin Connect being a single point of failure:

    - you can manually copy activity FIT files off of your Garmin device or export them from the Connect website

    - you can view activity FIT files on fitfileviewer.com (which will include detailed information that even Connect doesn't show you)

    - you can request all your data from Garmin Connect (including activities)

    - you can sync activities from Connect to other services like strava.com or runalyze.com and view the activities on those services, even when Connect is down. (runalyze and strava also accept manual FIT file uploads)

    - you can view your activities offline using ConnectStats for iOS (which syncs with your Connect account)

    - someone built an offline FIT file viewer as a desktop app: https://github.com/Nick2bad4u/FitFileViewer (I haven't tried it myself, but combined with manually copying activity FIT files off your device, this should be a fully offline solution, albeit one that requires a computer)

Of course none of these solutions come close to having Connect available offline, but there are ways to view and archive your activities even if and when Connect happens to be unavailable.

And if you happen to be off the grid or otherwise unable to wirelessly sync your watch or manually copy activity files off your device, most modern Garmins should have enough storage for weeks or months of activity retention. (As far as I know, the only reason modern Garmins don't keep activities for *years* is due to artificial limits on the time period that activities will be retained - it seems that they start automatically deleting activities that are a certain age, as long as they've already been synced.)
