Different routes to/from destination?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I have a question about my garmin 260.
I sent this to tech support also.

I have a nuvi 260 and the lifetime map update. I have an issue that has become very annoying. I have been out of town using my 260 twice in the last 6 months. Both times I left from my home and went to a hotel. Both times the garmin chose a different route to/from each location. For example, I went from my home to a hotel in Hilton Head, SC. The garmin chose a route that took a little under 3 hours and the majority of the way was in Georgia. When I left, I was still in the hotel parking lot and just selected Home. I wasn't paying much attention to the route until I realized it looked different than the way we had driven up. Ended up, that route took alot more turns and was about 3 hours and 15 minutes to get home and it was mostly in South Carolina. . And I did not miss a turn, etc. Why would the garmin do this?

I have had the same problem! I have also noticed that it seems to avoide the highway and goes threw the city rather than around it. The gps is on "quickest" not shortest route. It should not take me into trafic. Could you tell me what tech supp. had to say?

    Sure, here's their response.
Some of our devices allow for custom routing options but the nuvi 260 only allows for one via point to be added in a route. You could put in your final destination and then go into your "Where To" menu and select intersections. Here, you can enter an intersection near the highway you wish to take. This might make the unit choose a route that more closely resembles what you would like to take. You can also, just start driving the route you want to take and it will eventually "catch up" to what you are wanting to do and recalculate a route based on what you are driving.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you and I'll be happy to help.

Not really helpful at all. When I'm out of town in an unfamiliar area I don't know if I can "start driving the router I want to take" or make it go to a certain intersection. I know it's not the tech support guys fault but there has to be another explanation of why it does this and how to avoid it.

As advanced as these Garmin are now, why isn't "Custom Routing Option" included in every single Garmin? It's a common request and a basic feature that should be available by default. Or how about a "Follow Previous Trail" option that follows the path you took up to a destination except just in reverse as closely as possible? I guess no one in Garmin has ever used this basic Google Maps feature? Another common sense feature that should already be included on all Garmin devices.

Did it to me again this weekend.

Considering just selling it off and getting something different.

But, will that do any good? Is there a model out there that I can "save" a route so I can just reverse it if I want?

When I left my house on Saturday morning the route was 3 hours and 30 minutes. I was only on a few different roads. When I left the hotel it showed almost 4 hours. i knew then I was in trouble. It took me through the corner of another state and through some long windy back roads.

Mine is also set for "Fastest" so i can't figure out why almost a 30 minute difference was not detected.
