Garmin adds 25km to each run, elevation is lat 20k and temperature 65°C

I run almost everyday and some days also swim of do strength. The problem is that some days, without any pattern, the watch adds 25 km after the first 400 meters, meaning, that after running the first 500 meters the watch shows a distance of 25.5 km. Also the elevation appears fixed in all activities, 20000 meters. I live over the beach and rarely I can go far more than 10000 feet, 20K must be in open space, over thr ISS. And on top that temperature is always 65 Celsius, also an anomaly.
I'm thinking of switching to Coros., but wouuld like to kanow any possible cause.
Mine is an Instinct 1 not solar.

  • Do you wait until you get a GPS position before you press start? If you don't do that it can cause issues when the first positions are logged.

The elevation issue sounds like your altimeter is broken. Contact Garmin Support.

  • ... also, in the concerned activity profile, disable the 3D distance and speed. As your barometric sensor is apparently broken, the bogus altitude leads to bloating of the distance by the vertical difference. Although disabling the 3D option won't help with the pressure sensor, it should help with the distance.

And seing that the thermometer does not work either, it looks like the SNS (Sensor Hub) firmware component is corrupted. On the Beta Program Forum you should be able to find older versions of the firmware, with the previous version of SNS, and also the instructions how to install them. If you manage to install the old firmware (incl. the SNS), repeat the update to the current version. If the hardware is functional, it should help reestablishing the full functionality.

  • Yes, I wait till It checks the GPS, meaning is ready to use it, and also I live in the caribbean, clouds are rarely seen here. I run open air, so spoiled signals are rare. Indeed this is a recent behavior, I've done trail under dossel and it used to work fine.
