Two Factor Authentication overly aggressive

Two Factor Authentication is overly aggressive and can't be turned off. Each time I log in via Chrome, despite checking both "Remember Me" options, it repeatively requiring a Two Factor Authentication code each time I log in. This is extremely annoying!

  • Fully agree. It's so incredibly annoying. As if someone is interested in my data.. not ! And in addition, the code often has a delay (maybe due to my email-address, but nevertheless) and then it's not working anymore, you have to request again etc. Last week I had to do it 5 times, before giving up.

Garmin is losing me, because also the Fenix 8 is very unsatisfactory (compared to my Forerunner 945 which I had before).

I'm not defending Garmin here, but afaik Garmin mandates permanent 2FA if you use the ECG function of your watch, and they probably do so because they have to worry about complying with health privacy laws.

They're def not doing it because they "care" about the privacy of your data or because they think you will appreciate it, but most likely because they're overzealously (?) trying to comply with government regulations.

  • Thanks for your informative reply. I agree it is needed, my annoyance is it is ignoring the fact I've checked  "Remember Me". So I have to go thro the same procedure on the same laptop in the same browser everytime I log in! Maybe it's just a 'bug' in their software which they will hopefully fix soon Grin

  • Fair enough. But I don't have this issue with banks or other 2-factor authentication. If they really have to do it by law, I suggest they give the option to use an authenticator-app or by mobile.

Yeah as with a lot of things Garmin, the implementation is out of date and the user experience is bad.

Just look at these forums (they didn't implement the forum platform, but they chose it, despite the fact that a couple of other modern solutions were available at the time they switched to this platform).

I def understand your frustration. Just wanted to mention the apparent reason that - for some people - 2FA is on and can't be turned off.

  • I wish they didnt have the remember me check box if they were not going to use it lol.

I get it, privacy and what not, but not even my bank makes me so the 2FA every time as long as I check remember me and to trust this specific computer.

  • Exactly, it's the fact they have two "Remember Me" checkboxs and totally ignores both, duh!
