Importing FIT files not updating various widgets (glances)

When I import a MyWhoosh .fit file in Garmin Connect Web, it successfully imports and I am able to see workout details.  They appear on my Calendar and I can view the workouts on the web and in my Android app and on my ForeRunner 965.  But, these workouts are NOT appearing in my various glances.  They are not showing up in my Acute, Training, and Exercise Load, Intensity Minutes, Recovery Time, Training Status, Load Focus.  It does show up in Calories Burned.  So, it's not all of them. This appears to have just started happening in the last week.

  • As I understand it, the MyWhoosh .fit file previously included a line indicating that the file had been generated by a Garmin Edge device. MyWhoosh have since removed this (possibly to do with the attribution debate that Strava and Garmin were engaged in). If you want the training to show up as before, you will have to edit the .fit file and enter the details of a Garmin device yourself.

  • Thanks for the info.  I was thinking this might be the cause.  If Garmin is trying to get people to use their platform, this is clearly NOT the way to do it.

  • If you want the training to show up as before, you will have to edit the .fit file and enter the details of a Garmin device yourself.

To elaborate on this, you can change the device info of a FIT file pretty quickly and easily using the device changer tool at https://www.fitfiletools.com/

Since it seems like you are already manually importing these FIT files via the Connect website (as opposed to some sort of automatic sync), one additional manual step shouldn't be too onerous (I hope). I realize it is annoying, but otoh, MyWhoosh was technically doing the "wrong thing" in the past by pretending its FIT files were created by a Garmin device, and now it seems that Garmin doesn't like that so much anymore [*]. (But there's nothing Garmin can do to prevent *you* from changing the device info in your FIT files.)

[*] or maybe, as druidh pointed out, it was wholly mywhoosh's decision

  • It may have been MyWhoosh who.instigated the change as they'll now appear as the named data contributor in Strava.
