Inconsistent use of units of measure

I am use the Garmin Connect web portal, the Connect app, various Edge cycling devices, a Venu X1, and a Forerunner watch.

The Edge devices allow me to select the units of measure individually for distance and speed, elevation, temperature, weight, height. position format, and time format.

The Connect portal and apps allow only metric, statute, and UK statute selections.

The Venu provides options for distance, pace/speed, elevation, depth, weight, height, temperature, swim totals, pressure, vertical speed.

It would be helpful if the portal and apps would catch up with the devices in terms of user selection of units of measure. Perhaps make this a design principal?

  • As a Canuck who uses a mix of metric and statute/imperial (https://www.reddit.com/r/Metric/comments/hmyt6a/how_to_measure_things_like_a_canadian/), this has frustrated me ever since I started using Garmin devices.

Ofc I set Connect to metric because I'm a runner, and we use km for distance and pace.

But we also use lbs for strength training, so I do use mixed units on my watch.

For example, it's very annoying to be able to set weight in lbs on my watch for lifting, but if I need to edit the weight in Connect after the fact, I have to use kg.

Looking at old forum threads, people have been complaining about this for 10+ years.

All I can say that we've always been told to use https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/, which appears to be a one-way black hole for suggestions. Ofc anything we submit there is guaranteed to be invisible to the public (e.g. it won't appear in internet or forum searches), there won't be any community discussion or votes, and Garmin is guaranteed to not get back to us.

Idk, I guess we can check back in 2035 and be amazed that this is still not implemented.

  • This extends to the Tacx indoor trainer app. The options for unit of measure are the same as for the Connect app: statute, statute UK, imperial. Changing the unit of measure in the Tacx app updates the unit of measure in the Connect app. That is how I came to start investigating this issue. Users in countries like the UK and Canada will find this irritating.
