Dakota 20 internal memory is gone

Apple iMac with 10.5.8 Leopard and Dakota 20, one week old

Yesterday (27/2/2010) I installed Basecamp 211 bèta and it seemed to work well. I transferred tracks to the Dakota and deleted some waypoints on the Dakota. Thn I unmounted the Dakota through Basecamp.

I restarted the Dakota: no cards, database error, it didn't work any more. I performed a hard reset but only the screen with the program was reset, not the data on the internal memory.

I mounted the Dakota again and there was nothing buth strange files on my device. I could see those files in the Finder. Basecamp nor Roadtrip nor Webupdater recognized the Dakota. The thing was rendered useless. I contacted support but its weekend.

I think I can by mistake delete files on the internal memory, but I am sure I cannot replace them whit the things I found in the Finder ( see attachment).

Has anyone a solution for replacing the internal memory with the original files ? One thing is sure, next time I will make a backup on my iMac!

    Hard reset

Start the Dakota while pushing/touching the left upper corner of the screen. It did not solve my problem!

    Not foolproof

I have the impression that the Dakota 20 is not foolproof. I was a very happy Dakota 20 user during one week. I expect the same in the future.

    I have a similar problem.

The Dakota20 is still working and I have the Garmin subfolder but in the root folder of my Unit I have a lot of crap files that take +/- 850MB of memory.
Allmost all my intenal memory is gone.
I can't delete those files or open them.
I also did "Delete all user data" but those files are still there.
What can I do to delete them and get back my internal memory

    Thanks.

Had the same problem. The "Hard reset" didn't even work anymore. My reseller sent my dakota 20 to garmin and I got it replaced. Still don't know what the problem was.

hard(master) reset does not work on mine either. It powers right off after the message that authenticating updates is 0 percent finished. No yes no choices on whether I want to continue.

Not buying another dakota for sure or recommending it. Its been used on one trip and now its brain seems to be gone.

Too bad but my next unit will be a De Lorme. They are local to me.
