Question about Etrex Vista HCx

Former Member
When I got my HCx the first thing I did was to load a free topo map from a website I found.

But now I would like to get rid of it , I am unsure if it has caused me problems or not, I would like to put my HCx just to like it was when I took it out of the box.

If I do a hard reset will that it put it back to brand new condition , and if so could someone please tell me how to do a hard reset. I don't want to break anything I just want to start all over and do things the correct way , I like this thing to much to screw it up already , I haven't even had it a week yet.

From now on I will buy all the maps I need from Garmin.

Granted, I'm late to this party, and I'm a bit of a newb to the Vista HCx, but I was faced with a similar problem and what I did was this:

    turn on mass USB storage,
find and delete the .img file
transfer the maps I wanted and all my waypoints and POIs back to the eTrex.

But, before you do that, you may want to play around with HIDE and SHOW maps:
On the map page, press Menu, then Setup Map, slide over Map Setup Info, hit MENU again and scroll down to the map giving you problems and HIDE it. It might be that the map in question is giving you fits, but that you might want to use it again later for some specific reason.
