Hip Adductor exercise automatically converts to Hip Abductor

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing an issue when trying to add strength training exercises to my workout library. When I select and add the "Hip Adductor" exercise, the system automatically changes it back to "Hip Abductor" instead.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Go to Garmin Connect (web)
  2. Navigate to workout creation/editing
  3. Select "Hip Adductor" from the exercise list
  4. Add the exercise to the workout
  5. Result: The exercise is saved as "Hip Abductor" instead

Expected behavior: Both Hip Abductor AND Hip Adductor should be available as separate exercises, as they target different muscle groups (hip abductors = outer thigh/glutes, hip adductors = inner thigh).

Impact: The muscle group visualization in my workout overview is now incorrect, as it shows I'm only training abductors when I'm actually training both muscle groups.

This appears to be a bug in the website code where these two exercises are somehow linked or confused. Can someone from Garmin please look into this?

Device: Garmin Venu 3 Platform: Garmin Connect Web

Thanks in advance!

  • Love the amount of detail you included for this report! I tried replicating this but on my side this is working. I used the same steps you stated above on the web, I tried this with the Hip Adduction options then saved the workout. I backed out then went back in and it kept my changes.

I also sent the workout to my watch to see if I could replicate this that way, but this kept the workout as is and did not change it. I also tried this in reverse where I selected Hip Abduction but it saved the changes like normal.

I know for both of these exercises they do have multiple options for the Hip Adduction and Hip Abduction. If you are still able to replicate this, can you please respond back with the exact title that way I can try to replicate it?

  • Thank you for your quick response and for testing this thoroughly on your end.

I have been investigating this further and discovered that the issue is language-specific. When my Garmin Connect settings were configured to Dutch, I experienced the problem where Hip Adductor would automatically change to Hip Abductor. However, after switching my interface language to English, this issue no longer occurs and both exercises save correctly.

This suggests there may be a bug in the Dutch language translation or database mapping where these two exercises are incorrectly linked.

While testing in English, I noticed another gap in the exercise library. The "Sliding Hip Adduction" exercise is available and functions correctly with proper muscle group mapping. However, there is no corresponding "Sliding Hip Abductor" exercise available in the English library. Since these are complementary exercises targeting opposite muscle groups (inner thigh versus outer thigh and glutes), it would be valuable to have both variations available for complete workout tracking.

    Could you please:

    1. Investigate the Dutch language version where Hip Adductor and Hip Abductor appear to be incorrectly mapped or translated
    2. Consider adding "Sliding Hip Abductor" to the English exercise library to match the available "Sliding Hip Adduction" exercise

This would ensure both language versions are complete and that users can properly track both muscle groups in their strength training routines.

Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
