Trackpoints in FR60 file - why so many?

I just got an FR60 to use while swimming. My plan is to edit the XML file to add the distance to each lap, so the distance is part of the entry in Garmin Connect.

I am not using the HR monitor, footpod or any accessories.

Interestingly, the first time I exported the XML file I saw a ton of trackpoints recorded. Hundreds. It looks like they are recorded every 5 seconds. Any ideas why the watch is recording so many trackpoints, and how to get it to stop doing that? It makes it a real pain to find the laps and enter the distances when you need to scroll through 50 screens of trackpoints where all that is recorded is the date and time.

Thanks,
Matt
  • The FR60 drops a datapoint every five seconds in a session, regardless of what you're doing or how many sensors are active. For some that might be too few, and for others it might be too much. But it's predictable.

There is no way to adjust that parameter from the user interface.
  • Helpful, thanks.

I'm going to have to do a little research to figue out the best way to add lap distances to these files going forward...kind of a pain to have to scroll through so many pages of trackpoints to find the next lap...WordPad has a search but not a replace function...and if I open it in Word it opens with all sorts of XML tags that are not searchable easily...

    Cheers,
    Matt

    Hello Matt,

I have WinXP SP3 and my WordPad has "Find" and then separately down the list "Replace". I did a quick "Find" test and put Lap in the search box and clicked "Match Whole Word" and it jumped down thru the tcx file just fine. The distance for each lap is down a few lines from each Lap so you can edit it by hand easily.

    Found it, thanks!
