swim newbie - please help

My first few weeks of swimming, and I just got a forerunner 50.

I would like to know how you experienced people are keeping track of your trainings.

so far i cant even seem to change the training type from run to swim (yes I did look at the manual)

how do you keep track of your:
total laps / average lap time/ best lap time/ worst lap time
(for all your training sessions not just one)

any help would be appreciated

cheers
mac
  • Hi Mac,

I bought an FR60 and hit the lap button every 200m. Then I upload, export, and edit the XML file to add the distance to each lap, then re-upload.

I researched this a bit and it seems that others do this as well.

    Best,
    Matt

thank you very much for that
it really helped and I managed to edit the file an display the laps and distance (as puny as they were :)

is there any way to see average lap time on here?

    cheers
  • A note about the fr50 vs. the fr60 for the purposes of swimming. The water resistance specs for the two units ARE NOT the same. The fr60 is rated to 50m, the 50 only 10m (same as the 01/05 forerunners). While both would depths would appear "swimmable", technically this is not the case and swimming with the 50--especially when making frequent button presses for lap splits--is definitely not recommended.

Further, as the 50 is not speced for swimming, there are only two sports supported on the 50: cycling and running.

Warnings aside, as far as your question about average lap time, afraid I have to continue with the negative nature of my post and say no, there currently isn't a display for this in GC.
  • Hey Mac,
As a follow-up, I just posted a tool that I created to automate my swimming XML files. It is in the FR60 forum: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=6286
Feel free to download and use it.
    Cheers,
    Matt
