Oregon 550 & Routing

Just got in the 550 and trying to understand routing, yup! so easy?

Anyway, Create Route via preloaded Base map and it steps me through the points. So far do good but then when I see the route it is a straight line so "worthless." Do I need to add a different map set to get actual route (street to street to ...) or what?

Also, another issue when try to route, get an error "Route calculation error: Maps do not have routable roads in this area"

Road Routing

In an "off the shelf" Oregon 550, you can see the streets, but the map is not routeable. You need to buy a routeable map. I live in the UK and have bought the GB Discoverer map.
I find that when this map's enabled, routes are made via the roads. If I disable the map, or try to route outside the UK, the unit says "no routable maps".
