Why can't I buy parts from Garmin

I'd like to know why Garmin refuses to sell parts for out of warranty product. Instead they want to force the customer to pay them to replace simple parts.

Hi The above is a good question and deserves an answer.

If I may impose further ? How non replaceable is the battery in my new Garmin 765 ?

In any event it is very strange customer service is it not ?

    Kind regards davidb

Which part are you talking about? It sounds like you're talking about internal parts? If that's the case, the market for them may be so small that it's not worth their tim to set up an inventory line. They may also not want consumers trying to do repairs on internal parts. And yes, maybe they want to make money off the repair.

A lot of consumer electronic companies have this policy. Other than internal memory, Apple will not sell spare parts for their computers or ipods. I had a DVD drive on an imac go bad. Apple wanted $500 to replace the old unit with another new, but identical old and out-of-date DVD drive. I bought a newer model drive for $45 and replaced it myself. I don't think Sony would sell me any repair parts for their TV that I own.

I wanted to purchase the rubber gasket and keypad which is one piece and fits between the 2 halves of a GPS V. As far as Sony not selling parts to consumers be advised you are wrong on that fact. You can buy any part you wish for your TV. There is no reason other than greed for Garmin not to sell parts to a customer who wishes to do his own repair.

Don't Polar have a similar repair policy?
