Exporting individual activity raw data

Hi  I am in Garmin Connect and I am trying to export to Excel  the data behind the heart rate graph. (all the data for each measurement).  I am sure I could do that years ago but I can't seem to find a way now. I see where I can export to TCX or GCX files but I can't open them with Excel. I can see where I export split data to a CSV file but that only gives me summary data by split. I was looking for more detailed data.

  • - Export to the original FIT file (open activity in Connect website, click gear icon, click Export File).

This gives you the activity FIT file inside of a ZIP. This is the exact file that was originally recorded by the device (no different than what you'd get if you copied the file off the device itself)

    - Open the exported file in fitfileviewer.com

This gives you all the data in a series of tables (e.g. records, laps, session). Each table can be exported to CSV for further analysis.

The records table contains the information in the graphs, including HR data.

The nice thing here is that you can see several things that Connect doesn't show you, like:

    - activity/lap distance to the nearest 0.01 metre

    - user and activity VO2Max to 2 decimal places

    - wrist HR and external HR, in addition to the HR values actually used by the activity

[if dynamic source switching is enabled, which it is by default on watches that have it]

This can be helpful if you want to compare the accuracy of wrist HR vs a chest strap, as well as showing you exactly when the watch decided to switch sources

You can also automatically sync your Connect account with a 3rd-party service like runalyze.com which shows additional data and analysis beyond what Connect displays.
