TCX upload failing into GarminConnect

Hi
I'm new to garminconnect and while my running activities upload fine from my 305 direct into GC I am unable to import my history.

This was exported as a tcx file from TrainingCentre (about 2-3 years of data - 60 mb size) but all I get in the manual upload screen is "An error occurred with your upload. Please try again."

I have searched around and corrected the empty device <Name></Name> bug but still no dice!

I would attach the tcx file as a zip here (3.6 mb) but that's failing too : (
Otherwise, does anyone know any other usual suspects or better still the format or constraints with the tcx files into GC pls?

Any help appreciated!
Thanks

Dan

I've got the same problem. By reading the instructions, I saw that you should export data for one day, but it must be possible to send the complete database (I hope).
  • When I tried to import a couple of years of history into GC, it choked on a lot of activities for various reasons. I found that GC was pretty picky about the tcx file it would allow. I was going from Ascent to GC, and one problem I had was on some of my indoor roller rides, somehow the altitude got set to a very large number, which GC would reject. I manually edited those in a text editor using search-and-replace. (BTW, importing these files into GTC would often cause a completely fatal crash that could only be recovered by resorting to a backup file of the GTC database.) I wound up importing the data in smaller bites (months or weeks) to figure out which activities were causing the problem, and then I'd find some way to fix those particular activities.

Thanks for the reply folks. I tried again with just one day's/activity's worth but alas no!
Same problem with the device name again but will have to sift through it ... wish I hadn't tried using the Berlin marathon record now!

HollAus71 - you mentioned the instructions - where were those listed pls. A case of RTFM on my part I'm sure but any little help I can get is welcome!

    Thanks HollAus71!

Quick update - single activities as suggested do seem to upload though even this seems a little hit and miss - I got a failed message for one last night and then when I tried a reload this am it worked ok....

For other activities I can export from TC individually or have also had some joy pasting the <Activity> to </Activity> block within the standard xml headers and footers.

Painful but at least it DOES work .... sometimes :)

    Thanks again.
