Average pace calculation on GARMIN CONNECT

Hi all! In the following table the first lap lasts 14,7 sec. and the distance is 50m, the pace should be 4:54, why GARMIN calculation is 5:15?

I have thought that in GARMIN CONNECT the distance 50m is "approximated", a bit different from the reality. In fact, if it was 46 meters the pace is right 5:15.

If this is correct, it means that GARMIN approximates 46m to 50m. What do you think?

Thanks!

  • I wonder why Garmin did not allow the more precision in every case (i.e. standard running) by default.

    Probably because:

    - most users don't want to see their distances to the nearest metre

    - Garmin thinks that displaying such precision might be misleading. (Similar to how Garmin rounds instant pace to the nearest 5 seconds during a run.)

  • Very clear! Just last question: practically, at the end of the fourth lap (4x400), I press STOP button, right? Not LAP button.

Then a calibration prompt pops up? and I enter 1600 ?

    Thanks!

There's no calibration prompt and nothing to manually enter. Before you run on an unfamiliar track, just start recording a Track Run activity and run around the track at least 4 times  The watch will automatically calibrate for the track and you don't have to do anything else. After that you are free to stop the activity or continue running.

    Just follow the instructions here:

    https://support.garmin.com/en-CA/?faq=eH8V1VwjN338uo8C5PgDJ7

    • Set the lane number you are running in. Setting the lane number will ensure the correct amount of distance is added for each loop based on the distance for the lane you are running in. To set the lane number:
NOTE: Steps may differ by device, for specific steps see your owner's manual and search "Lane Number".

      1. Press Watch with circle in top right corner START/STOP.

      2. Select Track Run.

      3. Press and hold the Watch with circle on middle left side UP/MENU button.

        • NOTE: The Enduro 3, fēnix 8, fēnix E, Forerunner 570, Forerunner 970 and vívoactive 6 will already be in the menu.

      4. Select Track Run Settings.

      5. Select Lane Number.

      6. Select the lane you are running in.

    ---

    • Calibrate the profile the first time you run at a new track. To calibrate the Track Run profile:
      • Begin recording using the Track Run profile, no other input is required.

      • Complete a minimum of 4 laps around the track.

      • Avoid changing lanes during calibration laps.

      • Run slightly further on the final calibration lap to ensure complete calibration.

      • After the 4 laps you can continue running normally.

I pasted the lane number instructions before calibration, although the support article has them the other way around, because you should select the correct lane number even for calibration, if you are not running in lane 1.

  • Thanks so much! Now I just need to go on a track and make tests.

    Again, thanks!
