Daily Timeline heart rate does not match activity data

After looking through several of my "Daily Timeline" heart rate charts, I notice that the daily "high" value does not always match what was actually recorded for the day. This error appears to go back for several weeks, but I hadn't noticed until now.

Often, the daily high appears much higher than anything I should even be able to achieve. It is rare for my heart rate to reach anything above 172.

For reference, I am using the Forerunner 255, and additionally wear the HRM-Pro Plus for runs. During and after activities, my heart rate numbers look reasonable.

As an example, the highest heart rate logged on this day was 167 (confirmed by the activity log), and yet, the daily timeline maximum states 217 (impossible for me).

Any ideas?

Is it possible that your watch is accidentally reconnecting to the strap after a run? This can happen if you navigate to the HR glance, for example. (You would get a notification about this.)

In the past I've had super high HR readings (over 210) by washing my HR strap while it was connected to the watch.

Others have reported something similar when their strap is just in a gym bag.

I think the only foolproof way to be sure this doesn't happen is to disable the connection in the Sensors menu when you're not using it. (But this is obviously a pain - I def don't do that.)

    Either that or:

    - make sure the activity is ended before you take off the strap (so that the watch disconnects from the strap)

    - make sure you don't inadvertently reconnect to the strap while you're not wearing it

Also, I *think* straps like HRM-Pro Plus will turn off if they've been motionless for a little while, so the accidental reconnection thing is only an issue if you're walking around with the strap in a gym bag (or something) or immediately after an activity.
