My Device Won't Record My Location

I own a 310XT. When I look at my activities grid, none of my activities have a location. I am not able to edit that field to add my location.

Because of this, none of my activities show up when searching by location.

How can I add the location to my activities? You'd think that sice these are GPS based that it would be added automatically. However, we should have the ability to edit for when we have a non-GPS based activity (i.e. treadmill run recorded by footpod).

What can be done?

Thank you,

KCWolfPck
  • You could add the location to the activity name or description fields. Both of these fields are searched when you do a search.

Or are you talking about searching using the Explore in Garmin Connect? If so, this has had problems for several months. For the time being, don't even bother using this.
  • When I click my "Activities" tab from my dashboard, it takes me to a screen where I can see my most recent activities in a grid view. I current am showing the default tabs, which include Activity Name, Activity Type, the Location, followed by Start Date, Time, Distance, etc....

The "Location" field for every single activity is blank and it cannot be edited.

This is what I am referring to.

When I "Explore" activities and want to see mine, I select "My Activities Only" or put my name in the user field and run the search. When it shows the list of my activities, my Location is blank on all of them.
  • Ah, now I see. I didn't know there was a location column available. Which also means that I now have the same question as you.
  • Back when our activities were on MotionBased.com, the location would populate automatically.

I remember reading a long time ago when they were importing the activities over to Garmin Connect that the location field would eventually correct themselves, but that obviously hasn't happned yet.
  • Actually, I just found this on the "What's New" page. This was apparently implemented in the August update.

    August 2009
    - Calendar
View your activities in calendar format. View quick stats, maps and reports right from your calendar page.
    - Manual Entry of Activities
Enter activities that were not recorded by a Garmin device and get credit for all of your workouts.
    Health
    - Manually track your weight or have it automatically uploaded along with 8 other Tanita fitness measurements with compatible scale and Garmin fitness devices.
    - Location
Automatically assign the location name based on the starting location of an activity.
    - Bulk Delete
Easily delete those unwanted activities from your training log.

Doesn't work for me. Is there a setting in the watch we need to set to enable this?
  • Hi,

I'm as stumped as you are. I was also trying to work out how to get the Location populated and came across the same note about it being fixed in August. I then figured I'd search the forum to see if anyone else knew how to get it to work, and found you have the same problem. So I don't feel so bad now ;)

Yes, I have been wondering about the "Location" column also. When will this be added?

Hey...working for a software company, I know that when they say "it's in the release", it means it's there :D lol

    Hi All,

We've posted the update in a few areas, but obviously not very well. Sorry! Turns out we did have to pull back Location as it was interfering with other features in the 2.5 release. It's still on hold until further notice.

Again, sorry for the poor communication.

  • I don't even have a Location column in my Activities screen
