It's obviously a long time since I was here because I can't find any forum subsection devoted to dedicated road navigation GPS units. I'm sure there used to be.There was a previous topic 'Nuvi 250 formatted' which was closed long ago but in any case it did not contain sufficient information to solve my problem.- somehow that old locked thread about a formatted Nuvi 250 ended up under this subsection, and that is why I am posting my similar query here.
Using my Nuvi 250 satnav at the weekend, I had cause to realise the maps were a few years out of date. Got home, connected to Garmin Express which told me the current version of the installed map (Western Europe) would no longer fit on the device's internal memory and I would have to fit an SD card.
I had a suitable card, put in in the reader in my computer and formatted it... only to realise seconds later that I had formatted the Nuvi, not the SD card. Bad move.
I was careful not to create anything 'new' on the formatted Nuvi and used 'Recuva' to get back as much as I could from the unit and on to another drive. Among the many files recovered are a prodkey.bin file and a prodkeyEU.bin file and there are a lot of other files with the first letters of the filenames missing, and the directory structure has mostly unfortunately not been recovered so what files I do have probably aren't in the right places.
It would be a great help if....
-Someone could tell me the folder structure for the Garmin Nuvi 250 and the minimum / critical files which need to be in which folders in order for Garmin Express to be able to interact with the unit and load firmware and maps onto it - it is a LTM map unit so it is still 'entitled' to map downloads.
It would also be great if someone could post a few images of the files in the root folder of the unit and in the sub-folders so I can see what goes where and what to rename the various files to.
