Why can't I make my own custom workout plan?

I've had my forerunner 255 for quite some time. One of the main reasons I got it was the ability to create/sync workouts to it, so I don't have to look at my phone all the time. It's become particularly useful for my customized bike workouts. I do certain training on specific days and named them as such to keep track. However, I thought, why not just put this on a repeating schedule? That's where i reached my first hurdle. There's no way to do this outside of modifying one of Garmin's readymade coach plans. I already have my own workouts, I just want to put them on the calendar and repeat indefinitely. 

It seems like only options are to manually add the workouts to every single day that i want them on or use some third party tool to use the calendar function which is already built into Garmin connect.

No, I don't want to re-create my already customized workouts inside a pre-fab plan just so I can have it on my calendar. 

  • Not sure whether it could be a suitable solution for you, but can't you simply upload the workouts to the watch (without scheduling them), and then just pick the one you want to do any given day, directly on the watch? That would save you the work with permanent scheduling of the workouts.

  • Use Garmin Clipboard.

    Set yourself up as a coach.

    Create the workouts in Clipboard.

    Invite yourself as an Athlete.

    Schedule your workouts in whatever repeating timetable you want. 

    The workouts will appear in your Connect account on the relevant days. 

  • Oooooo. I like that. I didn't even know that was an option. I"ll look into this later! It seems like Garmin is trying to steer people towards their pre-fab plans. I get it from their perspective, but I also want to customize my OWN plans. 

  • This is what I'm already doing. I made it a lil simpler by putting the day of the week after the workout name so I can just load and go quickly. I just wanted the calendar option so that it pops up automatically. On a tangent, I thought it's a lil weird that the workouts don't sync automatically, I have to send them, even after making updates, every time.
