Garmin connect speed readings erratic

When I upload from Edge 305 into Garmin connect the speed reedings are very erratic. They from 15mph to 25 mph when in fact the speed was not varying much at all. Heart rate and cadence are fine.
Same file in garmin training centre or sports tracks shows the speed to be quite stable maybe varying 2 to 3 mph which is more realistic.

I am using 305 edge and garmin cadence sensor on a turbo trainer. The edge reads correctly during rides and is verified by a trek noide 1 and the turbo trainer. The speed reading does not seem to drop out or spike.

Any ideas anyone?

This happens because the Edge does not record speed, just distance. Distance is based on the number of wheel revolution per sampling time and will be an integer value. When speed is calculated from this, it will hop around between discrete values corresponding to the integer number of wheel rotations per sampling time. You can mitigate this somewhat by smoothing the data (not possible in GC or GTC).
