Export activity data from Garmin Connect Web to GPX or TCX does not work anymore ...

I usually export my activities in TCX format, but today exporting from Garmin Connect Web to GPX or TCX isn't working because the activity is longer (e.g., a 4-hour run). There seems to be an error or timeout, but there's no notification. It worked a few weeks ago, but not today. Please fix this. I'm really disappointed. If this continues, I'm leaving Garmin...

Added July 20: After a few days and several attempts to download the TCX file, it finally worked somehow.

  • Cannot help with fixing it (you better report it directly to Garmin's Support), but can offer a few workarounds:

    • If you only need to export the GPX track, open activity in Garmin Connect Web, save as Course, and export it from there. It works
    • Export the activity as the default FIT file and convert it to whatever format you need with an external tool
    • Link your GC account with Strava, and export it as GPX from there (TCX not available in Strava, AFAIK)
    • You can also try exporting it from GC later. The export often times out during peak hours, when the servers are overloaded 
  • I cannot export the .gpx file today which I have always done.

    On the garmin connect wesite: After selecting the ride required I click on the cog icon and select 'Export to GPX' but the save window no longer pops up. I'm using Firefox, tryed on two different systems now, win10 & win7 no joy Disappointed

  • I'm using W10 and Firefox lastest version, and picked a 5+ hour ride ant then saved to GPX. The downloading window popped up and it was saved in my download folder. Because there's a lot of data the fit file version is over 1,200 kb so it took longer (maybe 20 seconds) to finish saving the GPX file.
