Using Garmin Oregon 400c as receiver to view on laptop

Hi all. First post after a bit of browsing and some fail on search function. Hope I'm in the right forum to post this ....if not, I'm sure a mod will move it. Anyway, thanks in advance for the help!

I was given the Garmin Oregon 400c as a gift. Mostly this is to be used for sailing on Lake Erie. What I would like to do, however, is use the device as a USB input GPS receiver onto my Dell laptop (Windows XP, plenty of capacity) to overlay my GPS position onto navigational charts.

I could then keep the laptop down below with the Oregon 400c attached to it via USB onto a nice large screen with the charts.

What do I need to do this? And how do I go about it?

I'm not the stupidest guy in the room, but I also am not a tech wiz. All help welcomed.

Thanks!
