Finding "public" activities by username question.

We're a bunch of friends who run with Garmin GPS watches and we wish to easily share our activities with each other. In Garmin Connect we've all set our privacy settings to "public" and we name and categorize all our individual runs.

Can anyone explain why I cannot see a friends activities when I go to Explore and enter a friend's username under "filters"?

One of my friend's username is "sofjul". Can anyone see her activities by filtering by her username?

I don't see my own activities either if I filter by my own username "andersen3" or tick "my activities only" in the filters area?!?!?

(The RSS feeds seem to work fine...)

All advice appreciated! Thanks...
  • Do you see all the activities if you use the following:
http://connect.garmin.com/explore?owner=[username] where [username] is the name of the user you are looking for?

    Hi Kansaiben,

Thanks for your reply. Yes I do see friends activities at http://connect.garmin.com/explore?owner=[username]

That's how we are currently seeing each others activities.

But still don't understand why I cannot see a friends activities when I go to Explore and enter a friend's username under "filters"? Does the filters option work for you?
  • No, I've never gotten this part to work correctly, or I should say, effectively. I find I really need to zoom the map in to get anything, and then I'm limited to just the activities that start from a very narrow location. I've asked about this section before and IIRC the response had something to do with the way Google maps handles locations. I'd really like to see some improvements here or at least the option to separate searches from map views, but until that happens the best I can do is the url option (which isn't useful in all applications--finding all runs in south-east Michigan for example). Haven't found a good workaround so maybe someone else might be able to post something...

    ANDERSEN3,

As suggested by KANSAIBEN, make sure that your location is where the activities began. All of the specified filters (including the location) are combined to fetch your search results. This is likely why you couldn't find activities earlier.

We're working hard to improve Explore's user experience and make it easier and more useful. For the time being, you'll be limited to a small, zoomed-in region. Sorry for this inconvenience.
