Dakota 20 and activities

I've been using both a Forerunner 405cx and a Edge 705 for my fitness activities. I'm now into actitives which requires a good map display, and I found the Edge 705 not good enough. So I got a Dakota 20.

Now, I'm a bit confused, since the Dakota 20 does not have a start/stop button to start an activity, I'm a bit unsure on how to use it for my activities.

I can upload activities from the Dakota 20 to Garmin Connect, but I can't figure out what trigges the start and stop times of these activities.

In other words, how can I use the Dakota 20 the way I use the 405 and 705?

I beleive the Dakota will record your activity when the Track Log is set to record. So with that in mind, you would only want to record the track log when you are wanting to record your data. You would also want to start with a new clear track log. First turn the recording off by selecting Setup from the Main Menu. Then select Track Log and choose Do Not Record. Now you may clear the track log by selecting Track Manager on the Main Page and select Current Track. You may either clear the current track or save and clear the current track. When the track is clear, then set the track log to record when you want to record an activity. At the end of the activity either choose to stop recording the track log or save the track.
