Hi all, please excuse the basic query. I have bought a Garmin Forerunner 50, and have been on two runs so far - but when I upload them onto the website (later on) the time of my run appears to be hours longer than I was running for. For example a 20 minute run has just come up as lasting two hours. Has the clock somehow carried on? I did press 'start/stop' (once) as soon as I finished and assumed that did the trick! The website seems to have recorded my correct time as one 'split', but then added another 'split' lasting far longer, with no distance covered. I don't even know what splits are! any help more than appreciated. Cheers
After you finish a session, stop the timer and then press and hold the lap button until you get a countdown and it asks you to save the run. Select 'Y', and it will be good.
Or make sure the device is turned off. Stop only 'pauses' the activity. Confusing I know, but some folk do stop/pause activities to have a coffee before continuing - cyclists are pretty good at that :D
Once you understand Garmin's thought processes behind that it does actually become quite logical.
A split, or a lap is a segment of an activity. Say you go out for a run around a 3km loop and wanted to record the time taken for each circuit. Each time you come past the start point, you can press lap. The overall time will keep counting but a lap time will start at zero and record the time taken until the next lap press or stop. When you upload the data for later analysis, you will see the total time and distance and also the 'splits' or 'laps for each 3 km circuit.
The FR50 is a watch. It doesn't have 'off'. Other than that you're right - a recorded session can be composed of multiple segments. Pressing 'start' and 'stop' starts and ends those segments, but to end the entire session you need to press and hold the 'lap' button until it prompts you to save or not.
