I recently purchased a Garmin Nüvi 255WT on sale at Best Buy for a Christmas road trip.
The unit works great but I have few questions that I hope someone can answer. I am not sure if this is the correct place to post these questions.
1. On average how long should the unit normally take to connect to the GPS satellites? It seem to take about 3 to 5 minutes to connect whether I am turning on the unit or exiting from a tunnel or toll booth. Is this consider long? And are there other Garmin GPS that actually connects faster?
2. Traffic reports. I was expecting some form of advertising banners randomly popping up. Is it simply just the a circle/car icon that appears on the left side of the screen?
3. I am wondering how useful the Lane Assist/Junction View feature in other models is? I read somewhere it is not always available. I am considering returning 255 for a unit that has it. But is it really worth paying extra for this feature?
4. In reality, how often do I really need to update the maps? I have seen some Garmin offering lifetime map updates. Can I purchase lifetime map updates separately?
5. The 255 is suppose allow you to view JPG images. I am trying to figure out how much can be stored on the unit itself (if at all possible) and what is the maximum size memory card that can be used?
6. Is there a way for the unit to inform you of an approaching toll booth and fees?
