Time spent in Training Zones

Does GC or GTC (or any other program for that matter) actually break down the time spent in each training zone? I would like to know exactly how much time I spend in each training zone during a ride.
  • GTC will. Select the activity. Click on the totals (I think) tab.

    GC Doesn't
    GTC Does apparently
    SportTracks Does

Seems like a fairly simple important feature that you'd want built into a GPS/HR training device, not sure why it wasn't included from the beginning in GC.

same here. I assumed time spent in zones such an elementary function in any HRM or training software that uses training zones
trainingpeaks apparently uses time spent in zones in their premuim package but not the free one
    what is gtc?

GTC is Garmin Training Center. Note that the time-in-zones feature is currently only in the Windows version of GTC, not the Mac version.

Garmin Connect is web-based and your data is stored on Garmin's server.

Training Center is installed on your computer and your data resides on your computer. It's a good way to have your data backed up in case Garmin loses something of yours on their server.

You can download and install Training Center at this location:

  • Gerrycan makes a good point.
The Garmin servers are fallible, they lost over 100 of my activities when migrating from motionbase to connect.

I have said before, back up your activities somewhere else than just on their servers.

Being on a mac I use Ascent, which does give time in user definable zones, as well as storing the activity data locally and has a simple backup feature to where you want.

I would like to see total time spent in each training zone over a period of time in GTC. It will only show the time spent in each training zone for a specific training event. Seeing the total time for a period of time will give me an insight in how I execute my training i regards to intensity.
  • Please please. Seems obvious.

I would really like to know how much time I spend each month in training zones. It's the whole theory behind periodisation.

It's difficult to train in a target zone when you train by commuting to work. Route variations, traffic and weather means my speed / effort levels vary day to day outside my control.

Recording which zone I've been training in is basic to avoiding over- or under-training and will enable to target my weekend workouts.

It's time training centre got an update to include some reports too!
