Zwift virtual rides are not contributing to VO2 cycliing or Endurance etc.

Hi, I only noticed yesterday that my zwift virtual rides sync'd to my Garmin account are not impacting VO2 cycliing (nothing shown) or Endurance (Cycling activity not shown) etc and therefore may not be impacting my Training Status or Readiness either.

I've never tracked any outdoor bike activity on my Garmin (don't have a bike), only virtual rides with my Zwift trainer, which started in May this year where I've completed over 600km so far.

How do I fix this, I have raised to Garmin Support too, as this seems like a bug?

Thanks

S.

  • Which Garmin devices do you own, and which of them supports the Unified Training Status? After syncing the Zwift ride to Garmin Connect, you have to sync the device minimally twice, in order to post process the data from Zwift by the device, make all the necessary metrics calculation, and then syncing it back to Garmin Connect again.

  • I've got an EPIX Gen 2, during a zwift activity I only use my watch to broadcast my HR to the PC running zwift.

  • ZWIFT automatically updates Garmin once I click save post finishing the zwift activity. Everything comes over HR, Power etc. etc. and I can view all the details in my Garmin account via watch, phone app or Garmin connect website.

  • I don't know what you mean by "you have to sync the device minimally twice", this should just work. I have read elsewhere  on Reddit I think that I may need to seed or in other words record a normal outdoor cycling ride via my Garmin watch to spring it all into life. However I'd have to make something up, as I don't have an outdoor bike, and therefore this is a bug that needs to be fixed.

No, it should not just work without syncing your Epix twice. The first sync will send the Zwift data from Garmin Connect to the watch, where it is processed, and the Training Status and other metrics calculated, and the second sync will send the calculated metrics back to Garmin Connect. According to the documentation, you also have to record at least one activity of the same type (cycling in this case) on your device (Epix 2), in order to enable the Traning Status processing for 3rd party activities.

So I need to connect my watch to the wahoo kickr core and I assume select the "bike indoor" activity on the watch and pedal for a bit to track an activity, and upon saving, this will then allow my future zwift syncs to impact my training status?

  • The documentation tells the following. I do not use Zwift, so cannot tell for sure, but I think that recording any cycling activity could be sufficient. If not, try Virtual Cycling, or whatever else activity profile that the Zwift rides use in Garmin Connect:

After linking your compatible third-party platform with Garmin Connect, the activities from that platform will only populate if you have also uploaded an activity recorded in the same profile (e.g. running) from a Garmin Device that supports Garmin Training Status. For a list of compatible devices see: What Is the Training Status Feature on My Garmin Device?.

If the Garmin device on your account is compatible with Training Status but you are still not getting any Garmin training metrics from your third-party activities, you may need to enable Physio TrueUp on your Garmin device.

  • Thanks so much for your help, Garmin support were useless in trying to resolve this, they kept stating I had to record the activity on my watch.

So the answer is I needed a seed activity as outlined below, copied from the link you shared above:

I Have Linked My Third-Party Platform, but My Activities Are Not Getting Any Garmin Training Metrics

As I don't have an outdoor bike, I connected my Garmin watch to the wahoo kickr core and started an indoor bike activity for 1 Minute before saving. This then activated cycle training metrics on my watch so next time a zwift activity completed, the training metrics were shown on its stats page. Bit of a palava, but I got there in the end. Thanks for your help!
