I’m a large 28 year old man, 6’3” and currently at 260lbs, BMI somewhere around 30, and have been wearing the Fenix 7 for four years now. Back when I was around 230 and in better shape, I tested my BMR and supposedly needed 4,000 calories to maintain, and over the past year I’ve not been working out and my average caloric burn for the past year has been 3,400.
I recently started training again, with an average burn of 4,600 calories according to my watch, which should know” me after four years, and I’ve updated the weight to reflect as accurately as I can. I’m aware of the high percentage of error, especially with Garmin, but was wondering if there are other men of my age and size who can confirm these numbers through their own Garmin or other calorie-tracking smart watches.
I’m an infantryman (yeah, tracking, currently out of shape, lots of alcohol), but a day in the field doing live fires can have me burning a total of 6,000 calories a day. Hard to discuss accuracy with others in my unit who are 5’6” and 170lbs. I’m constantly hearing that my numbers cannot be accurate.
