Can we get the BASICS right soon please?

Well, it's over six months since swapping over from MotionBased, and of the three basic pieces of data I require from a GPS, Garmin Connect is still only reporting one of these correctly. I need:
o DISTANCE - that's fine;
o TIME - this is often overstated, as GC doesn't report MOVING TIME - essential for runs, rides etc interrupted for any reason (regrouping, traffic lights, etc etc);
o ELEVATION - hugely variable and erratic - MotionBased's correction algorithm was fine on this.
Surely this situation has gone on for long enough now - can you please get these previously-correct (in MB) data elements to be reported correctly as top priority, before adding in any more GC features? Two out of three basic pieces of data being wrong this long after the migration is a very poor score. :(
  • Sorry to answer my own question but

    http://connect.garmin.com/help/whatsnew

shows a list of as it says whats new, it is a pity that after a major upgrade this isn't presented at the top level.

    Hi,
Can you tell me how you are seeing the moving time?
I've had a look at the new release and cannot see this field. I have activity type of road cycling and am looking at old activities.
    Thanks

It appears that it's only shown for new activities. Uploaded one this morning and it has moving time. The activity I uploaded on Monday doesn't show moving time.

First off: congratulations for getting this release out, despite the obvious difficulty of having your development team being on the verge of departure.

Also, the two things I was looking for are in this release. Having the Moving Time is great, and the Elapsed Time is also useful. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble with the new elevation data, and I can't for the life of me understand what's going on here.

First, for the first time ever, my 205 is reporting some negative elevations, down to -517 feet on my most recent run (take a look). This appears in Garmin Training Center, so I can't see that this has anything to do with this GC software update. There is nowhere below sea level round here I should say.

Any idea why this should be??

Second, I'm now thinking this is an ideal situation to see how the new elevation correction is working, so I click on "Enabled" under "Elevation Correction" - and it has no effect, and the option won't change from "Disabled". Reading the help there, it seems to be saying that the correction should be in effect by default - but it seems not to be, or else isn't working yet. Is it possible you are still rolling this out, and by using GC early on the 1st April in the UK I'm slightly jumping the gun?

I've checked the "Settings" for the equivalent global choice on correction that used to be in MotionBased, but quite sensibly there isn't one - the recorded elevations are rubbish, so all activities should be corrected, imho. I hope this is not another situation where users outside the US aren't getting the same level of service as US ones.

In any case, I'd be obliged if you could give any help on the above two problems.

Elevations are really crappy here is well. I'm in The Netherlands which is as flat as it gets, still I'm doing 119m of elevation gain and 124m of elevation loss during a run. The corrections are not working for me either. Same problem as described above: simply doesn't change (even though the page does reload).

Thanks MRACID - I'll give this a go

    Hi guys,

Whenever we release new features we also update the FAQs:

    http://connect.garmin.com/help/faq#details

There is much info that was added this release. For those of you still having trouble with the charts you may need to clear your cache. This has worked for everyone thus far.

    Quoting myself..

The elevation issue seems fixed! I can switch the correction on and off sensible numbers are showing up! Also the activity that I've just added had the corrections enabled by default. Good job guys on the other side! Thanks!
  • After reseting safari (not just the cache but cookies too, and closing all open windows) I am now seeing that the elevation correction is showing enabled, although the elevation detail does not seem to have changed. The elevation gain - elevation loss is no way near zero for an activity starting and finishing at the same place. Can I default to having correction on?

Charts now also work after the above reset. They appear to be all on by default, a waste of bandwidth? You need to close the charts to have them closed by default.

The details are shown in the file runkkrun pointed to, although there are "errors" in it.
It would be good to just have a help file containing only features that have been added, so we can beta test it for you ;-)

eg there is no save/export when an activity without gps (ie in door gym activity) is called up (the time chart continuously "loads"
No grey tear drops are shown where laps were recorded.
Summary data distance editing requires manual average and maximum speed editing as well before a save can take place.

A page with present features and bugs would be cool rather than have members problems, solutions and workarounds scattered over several threads.
  • Since posting the above, I then went on to look at some old activities, that I wanted to get the right Moving Time for, and was more than a little dissappointed to find that this data, and Elapsed Time, is only showing for newly-uploaded activities! I wanted to tweak quite a few old runs and cycles - this is obviously not going to be possible. Don't see why GC can't do this for old activities, as they have all the trackpoint data.

KK? Glad you're still happy, but can you look into this?

On the positive side, the elevations seem to be behaving better - the "Enabled" button now works - yes, in the UK - and this works for old activities and new. So far as I can see, the help blurb isn't right, and it seems to be Disabled by default, but perhaps this is the default for existing ones - I'll need to check this out.

So slightly better news here than it looked to start with ...
