Garmin Coach - extend timescale?

Hi everyone,

I want to sign up for the Half-Marathon training plan with Greg McMillan. However I want to take it more gently than the suggested 14-16 weeks, as my goal is to run my first half marathon in 2026. I won't be able to commit to the 3 sessions a week over the summer. So I thought I would sign up and do each week twice, but it seems very strict that I eneter a reace in September this year.

Is there any way I could set that up within Garmin Connect? If not I'll look elsewhere for a longer scale plan.

Thanks for any suggestions!

John

  • I want to sign up for the Half-Marathon training plan
my goal is to run my first half marathon in 2026.

As a rule of thumb, you should remember this:
72 hours should never pass in which the body has no training load.

You won't really improve your fitness with just 2 runs a week. It will be difficult to build up basic endurance.

I want to take it more gently than the suggested 14-16 weeks

The duration of a specific training plan makes sense. It makes no sense to start a plan now if the race won't take place until 2026.

Train a solid base first and then start the regular training plan on time.

Also important. Do not run exclusively. Strength training and stability training are also part of the program. This will strengthen your muscles and bones and prevent injuries.

  • How much are you currently running?

Before you start with a specific half marathon training plan, I recommend that you run around 20-25 km per week. You should already be able to complete a 10km run as a single run.
