Nuvi 255WT Traffic does not work?

Former Member
Former Member
Good morning all,

I recently purchased a Nuvi 255WT due mostly to the traffic receiver feature.

Before I left home, I installed and ran the Webupdater and it installed what I thought were the latest updates.

Upon plugging the nuvi into the power core/traffic receiver, the traffic feature didn't work.

I again ran Webupdater, and it tells me I have the latest software. The traffic receiver still doesn't work. What is the deal? How do I get the traffic receiver to work? I'm quite frustrated over this as I'd expected the traffic receiver to work out of the box, and especially expected it to work after I ran webupdater twice.

Any help would be appreciated!

thanks much,
Keynner

    same problem here

I think I have the same issue.
    Started to use this morning.
When I first turned on the device, I saw the traffic icon in one of the menus. It requested a registration and provided me a code .
when I used the webiste , it suggested updating the SW version via Webupdater and the Traffic function just disappeared after the SW refersh.

Let me know if find a solution.

I am glad I took note of the "activation" code.

    255WT Traffic Issue

I think I am having the same issue. The box clearly states lifetime traffic but I don't see the option anywhere on the device. I purchased this Garmin to get the traffic feature. Did anyone figure out how to get this to work yet?

    Thanks

This forum is intended to support Outdoor & Fitness issues.
I would suggest to Conatact Support for issues with your Automotive device.

    Hi,
I thought I had the same problem, it turns out there are only some areas where the traffic
    works.

    Seems Odd...

    Hello all,
I just received the Nuvi 255WT as a gift and I too am having the issue with the traffic feature not working. Additionally, the page for the unit on the Garmin page is "down". Huh. Garmin is going to be gettting a phone call tomorrow. Will post if I can get any kind of resolution out of this mess.

I, too, received a 2xxWT as a gift this Christmas. I, too, was completely frustrated with the lack of answers. I, too, updated and reupdated only to have no traffic icon appear.

Luckily for me, my sister got the same model 255wt for Christmas and when she came back in town I did a little testing. It turns out the traffic receiver registers on my unit, Traffic icon appears under settings, but it is simply not working. I switched power cords/receivers with my sister and within 20-30 seconds the traffic icon popped up on the map.

So now I am left with a bum traffic receiver and the quandary of whether to deal with Best Buy's customer service OR Garmin's. ARG! (The problem with Best Buy is that they won't simply do a store exchange for an online purchase...they'll only refund amount of purchase leaving me $40 short of the current price of the unit).

    Good luck to all!

    Nuvi 255WT traffic.

Very interesting! I too also got my 255WT for Christmas online from Best Buy, so will be interested in what you find out.

    255wt

I received a 255WT for my birthday last week and when I went online tonight to update the maps and get the traffic download I realized the unit was the 255W. The receipt and the box both say 255WT. I'll be going back to Best Buy tomorrow to have them switch it out. Also, it's kind of spooky to get "page not available" on the Garmin website when you click on a 255WT hyperlink after searching the site for the 255WT.

    255 wt

Before going back to Best Buy I called Garmin. I spoke with Dennis and he was immensely helpful. The 255W unit I have has the capability of the FM traffic service built in and it will work automatically as long as I use the power cord that came with the unit. It has the FM receiver. Unfortunately the city I live in is not one of the current cities that has the traffic service yet. Dennis says when they rolled out this version there were 50 cities with traffic service, now there are about 90 and they continue to add more cities.

Bottom line - make sure you are using the proper power cord and you are in a city where the service is available.

    255 wt

The 255 W and WT are the same, except the WT has a different auto cord for the live traffic. Mine just say W also, but I found that out from this forum.
