What happened to streams, small lakes and swamps on my nuvi 500 after the map update?

Garmin Product Support, where are you? Any answers to my Nuvi 500 question?

I'm in the same boat. Maybe they will actually reply to my support emails one of these days.

I had exactly the same issue today while updating the maps on my new nuvi 500 unit. Any response from Garmin yet?

Nuvi 500 software shows as missing

I tried to update my Nuvi 500 before a trip the other night and when I turned it back on, the screen said, "Device Software Missing". I can't get it to do anything now. I have tried several times to call and e-mail the support section, and have not even received a courtesy reply from them.
Is this becoming a more normal operations from them, or what?

Are they now considering these units to be a throw down, buy-a-new-one when-it-goes-south attitude?
Sorry, but they are too expensive to do that.
Maybe a call to the BBB will have an impact.
I have at least 4 of their units, and this is the first one that has crashed, but with no response form their support section, I may not buy anything else form them.

You may try to load in the firmware using webupdater.

Did anyone ever help you get the correct map back? A friend did the same thing with his brand new Nuvi 500 and has lost the same geographic features that you lost. I would really like to help him put his unit back to the way it came if anyone knows a contact to help us with that!!!

Yesterday, I updated my new Nuvi 500 with the free map update ("CN NA NT 2010.30" along with "CN Lower 49 States + PR DEM"). Instead of having complete topo information layered on top of CN, (i.e., streams, lakes, swamps, and contour lines) we now have only the contour lines. We lost most of the topo information that we had when we bought it.

How can I revert back to the original maps?
