When I have garmin segments active I can see segments on my activity:
when i press "switch to strava segments"
I loose the ability to show segments.
This is a bad UX flaw. There is no way of knowing if you have segments strava segments enabled unless you go to training & planning -> segment page and one can toggle back to garmin segments. In the privacy settings on your account there is no toggle for strava segments- maybe there should be one?
Imo just render the garmin segments- dont check if strava segments are active. In the end the garmin activity is only for garmin training logs- where strava is a 3rd party app. Couldn't the segments just be separate? I recon when we toggle strava segments- the watch will fetch/use segments from strava over garmins segments- wouldn't it be better to seperate these systems into two? e.g. say use strava segments on my device.
Sidenote: I dont have strava premium atm so I have no idea if the strava segments display on the garmin activity- if they do.. I guess its ok- but shouldn't it get the segments nevertheless without a premium subscription? - Strava segments are free for everyone, can only create with premium.
I am a developer myself, I just tested their API and I did get segments from the API without being strava premium. So it is possible to display them on the garmin activity page. Maybe one would need to authenticate into strava before showing the segments.
Anyways- it would be great to keep the segment tab on garmin activity regardless.
Some ideas to solve this:
- Only show garmin segments on the activity page- if the user has connected strava- the user would just go to strava to show segments.
- If strava segments is on, show the segments or a text thats saying go to strava to show segments.
- Show garmin segments as segments and if strava segments are enabled then show an extra tab with strava segments?
- in segments, show both garmin and strava segments- differ strava segments with strava icon.
One could even show the segments tab by default- even if segments isnt toggled in the settings, this would be way faster than looking up "does garmin connect have segments?" - I did. I did not know about garmin segments until recently- after 3 years of use. I think many people doesnt know about this feature since its hidden by default. Having it visible, when clicked prompt a user to navigate to the setting page to enable it would make a better UI.
- i can follow up if needed
