Summary Stats on Garmin Connect different from the charts

Hi,

Just went for a first couple of runs on a new Garmin 965. On the second run, I tried 400m intervals x 4 using the lap button to record recoveries. The charts looked fine on Garmin Connect, however the summary stats data and intervals data was wrong, as it recorded the first part as a warm up which combined the first interval and first recovery. Data uploaded to Strava is correct with the correct t distances / recoveries, so the data file must be okay? Why are the stats / intervals different on Garmin Connect? Anyone had this?

Thanks!

When you manually press lap between alternating periods of high/low intensity in a run activity, your watch assumes you're running an interval workout (which you were) and tries to auto-categorize your intervals (which you didn't ask it to do), and that's why you're seeing that issue. (It thinks the first work interval was too slow to be a work interval, so it categorized it as a warmup instead.)

If you had instead followed a programmed workout, the intervals would've been categorized based on the workout steps.

Strava just shows your laps as-is, ignoring any interval categories.

    Here's a Garmin support article on interval auto-categorization: https://support.garmin.com/en-CA/?faq=QF6ojxsT3523NqpQsqZhT6

This feature can't be turned off, but what you can do is edit your intervals in Connect and recategorize your 1st work interval as a "run" interval instead of a warmup. (You'll also probably want to change the 1st rest interval to "rest" or "recovery.)

    In the Connect website:

    - open your activity

    - select the gear icon in upper-right hand corner

    - select Edit

    - select Edit Intervals

    In the Connect app:

    - open your activity

    - select the 3 dots icon

    - select Edit Activity

    - select Show More Data

    - select Intervals

  • Yes that worked, thanks. The first interval was 400m and reasonably quick, 7:30 per mile, so unsure why it logged as warm up, but anyway it's been amended through as above. I do understand that pre-loaded workouts wouldn'tt have this issue, but there are ocassions when I turn up to a team track workout and yiu don;t know the session until you arrive, so use the lap button. I was confused as I didn't have to amend anything on my Garmin 935 and ive just uograded to a 965

  • No problem!

, but there are ocassions when I turn up to a team track workout and yiu don;t know the session until you arrive, so use the lap button.

Oh for sure, I use manual laps for basically every group workout, especially bc the distance/time for each interval may not be exactly as planned when you're training with a group. (e.g. nominal rest might be 90 seconds, but actual rest could be shorter or longer depending on how fast you were compared to your similar pace group/)

This new feature is def annoying - lots of ppl have complained about it and wished there was a way to turn it off. (Especially because it messes up your ability to look at all your laps on the watch after a workout, since you can't expand intervals on the watch, only in Connect.)
