My training effect is always overtrained

I have a Garmin 735xt and a HRM PRO Plus heart rate monitor. I've been using the new HRM for a couple of months (I used to have the PRO) but while the first HRM gave me various training effect results in relation to the difficulty of the workout, now it always tells me 'Overtrained'. How do I reset it or bring it back to values consistent with the difficulty of the workout?

  • Where do you see "Overtrained"? There is no training effect label named like that. Post a screenshot. It is the easiest way to let us know what you are looking at.

What Is the Training Effect Feature on My Garmin Device?

  • It appears on the activity data page on Garmin Connect. It only appears if you use the heart rate monitor strap. Since I changed strap, every time I do a swimming or walking workout, it continues to always show 'Overtrained' ('Sovrallenato' in Italian) 5.0, which is always the maximum difficulty of the workout (the number goes from 0 to 5). This data appears even if I do an easy workout, in which before changing strap it would sometimes even give me 1. Among other things, the recovery alert now gives me many dozens of hours before starting another activity. Before changing strap, physical recovery was just a few hours.

  • The English word here is "Overreaching". A training effect of 5.0 could be ok depending on your training.

The issue here is more likely incorrect HR measurements, incorrect HR zones or max HR.

    Is your HR measurements correct?

Why did you set your max HR to what it is or did you let the watch detect it for you? Many users use the forumla 220 minus age, but it is almost always incorrect. In my experience often too low which will make all other values incorrect.

  • My HR has always been right. I don't understand why now the Training Effect always marks 5.0 while for the same activities of a few months ago they were much less, varied, were not always the same. Now I have done about thirty activities and it always marks 5.0 with recovery times of 66 hours and more even for the lightest workouts. All this since I changed the heart rate monitor band. Really strange.

  • Hard to guess without seing the data. Could you post a link to one of such activities?

  • It's incredible but since I did a cycling activity it starts to mark the real difficulty data of the training. Now it doesn't always mark me 5.0 but also other data even in swimming and racewalking.
