'Follow' friends and locations

I would like to be able to follow my friends' activities and be notified (RSS feed) when they post new activities. Similarly, I would like to be notified of new activities within a specified region (or regions) in the same way that I can on http://www.sessionlogs.com

There are lots of good things here that fit with Garmin Connect, such as being able to comment on friends' activities, and being able to add media to my own activities. (Note that I have no relationship with sessionlogs.com other than as a user).

I really like Garmin Connect and I can see it being hugely popular.

    Connect with people privately

I'd like to be able to connect with other runners privately. Currently, if I want to see or show a friend my activity, I have to make it public and email her the link. I would like to be able to make it a private link, but open to her. It is too bad Garmin has only 2 options: completely private or completely public. I often run from my home and do not think it is safe to post all my routes and habits publicly.

It is actually quite shocking to me that Garmin, who I think has the best training device out there, isn't jumping on the social network bandwagon. I can imagine a site that allows you to connect to friends and even suggest training partners based on your zip if you activate a "Looking for training partners" based on your pace and distance. I think having it post your workouts to a wall would be a great way to help stay motivated. I have a few friends in the area who I would connect with and I'm SURE they would give me $@it if they saw me slacking...
