If you are not happy with Garmin Connect please read

Hi

I've been extremely frustrated with the migration from Motion Based to Garmin Connect and the lack of information / customer service from Garmin. In my opinion Garmin has degraded a service that I was paying for to a point where it is unusable and to compound the issue they do not acknowledge or openly communicate how they will resolve the problems.

To this end I've been in communication with Watch Dog, a UK based consumer rights show broadcast on the BBC. They have some interest in taking this UK as a feature on there show and also to push Garmin for comment / resolution. However, they need to understand the scale of the problem. You don’t need to give me any personal details (please don’t) but if you support getting Watch Dog to take this up please reply to this thread saying yes.

If Garmin delete this post I shall also be putting the same on the major running forums e.g. runners world.

Fingers crossed somebody will eventually listen…

    EYLESG,
Best of luck in bringing some attention to this "situation"! However, I really don't understand the need for an ad hoc poll collecting "yes" votes.

ANYONE that's as bright as a small appliance light bulb...wanting to "understand the scale of the problem", need only spend a couple of hours reading post on this forum.

The frustration of Garmin users, as well as the absence of an appropriate response from Garmin are OVERWHELMINGLY OBVIOUS!

But for the record, if it helps... put me down as a "yes"! :)

We have a thread dedicated to Migration updates. We posted the latest update on 28 October 2009:

    Notes on Migration

The issue is that there is a small proportion that are that unhappy enough as to complain. It's the same as any forum, 90% of the complaints are from 5% of the users.
If you look over the history, it's the same people that start the complaining threads, then reply to others and start new ones. There have to be a lot of separate 'where is the info, how long on updates, where are my activities' threads but its not impressive if there are 40 threads but 1 with some back and forth that is 10 pages long. What happens if the person posts, the complainers follow up and it dies.

Also, I ride with 6 users (4 edge models and 2 forerunner) and only 2 use the online functionality. They love the unit and care very little about more than TC can do (1 even uses sport tracks)

Overall, I love the Garmin series, and have since day 4 (one of the originals) and have been here through it all. I have had mine repaired and had great customer service. I have lost my Install disc and had it shipped next day. I know of a rider that hit a parked car, was fine but his new 705 and had a new one 4 days later. This company stands behind the product. That is what I support.

The online is a bonus. Motion based was better, maybe, but GC is getting there. For most of the analysis that I use it for TC is fine and I just like having it online too. I like some of the features on GC and it is faster and looks and works better.

Took a look and you have 3 posts, all complaining. Seriously, have you helped on here, I use the ask/answer ratio. For every question I ask, I try to answer a few. Forums are for questions. If you are that unhappy then sell your Garmin and get something else, wait, it's the best in this market. They have broken ground and are still. Yes there are better online and PC based systems but do they have a UNIT to use, NO. They spend their time making programs. Garmin spends their time making great products and are weak on the software site.

From me personally, Garmin, keep up the good work making solid units that are dependable. I forgive you for not being a software company, maybe a place to improve but I will take a great product that works, lasts and I use daily first and foremost.

Having a great online is useless without a unit that works!

All done my rant, sorry, had a few minutes, heading out to ride. Wish you all a flat free 2010!

Most people live their lives being indifferent to the situations that they are in and they don't want to "rock the boat". Most people don't even know or care that there is a garmin forum where they can ask questions or rant. Yes, there will always be a vocal 5% but they are the people who force change to happen. The vocal 5% every year save a TV show from the brink of being cancelled. If no one complains then Garmin will think they are doing a good job. Garmin does make nice products but does it really take years to migrate your runs over to Garmin Connect? All of this could be avoided if there was a Garmin Connect Czar who every month wrote a post about what they are working on....

I guess it would be nice if we could all borrow KINBOY's rose-colored glasses concerning our opinion of Garmin....we could join hands and sing "Kumbaya" or maybe "What a wonderful World"....and the world would be a better place with out us 10%ers!

And while I'm thrilled Garmin is apparently meeting and exceeding the needs of him and his friends. I'm a little confused why he's so offended by those who expect and demand more than the "close enough", "better than most", "I can live with it", mentality!

While "overall" I'm satisfied with my Garmin unit, there is PLENTY of room for improvement!

And while KINBOY believes that "Having a great online is useless without a unit that works!"... I would argue that having a unit that works is useless without the appropriate software to analyze the data.

Some may be satisfied simple with the "Gee Whiz Gadget" factor of the Garmin. However, it's marketed and priced as a serious training tool. Therefore they should deliver on ALL fronts, not just the areas that KINBOY deems important!

    One good rant deserves another....

    Have a GREAT Day! :)
  • If you've got a problem with Garmin Connect, then just go elsewhere...like MapMyRide/MapMyRun, runsaturday, TrainingPeaks, or one of the many other services out there that might meet your needs better? It's simple. Garmin is proving to be taking a LONG time to get GC running up to speed. If that's not good enough for you, other sites have much quicker development. I've been playing with a number of different services. Not sure which I'll stick with yet, but they all do certain things better than GC right now.

-shrug- I guess some people are never satisfied and just have to whine. I'm sure Garmin will figure out they've got a problem when they look at site statistics.

Many of us have hundreds/thousands of runs on Motionbased/Connect and leaving is not an option.

    Hmmm

You've probably heard statistics about the "high cost of losing a customer." The theory is simple and true (fact?): keeping existing customers and repeat business is much more profitable than attracting new customers. Here are a few facts from BusinessCoach.com:

    - For every customer who bothers to complain, there are 26 others who remain silent.
    - The average “wronged” customer will tell 8 to 16 people.
    - 91% of unhappy customers will never purchase services from you again.
    - It costs about five times as much to attract a new customer as it costs to keep an old one.
    - Each one of your customers has a circle of influence of 250 people or potential customers who hear bad things about you!

    Alternative options

Re MTBIKERNATE's comment about using alternative options. I'm very new to this - can I upload data from my Garmin 310 directly to other websites? If so, could you let me know which ones. Cos I've not been able to upload data to the Training Center for over a week and despite two emails to the Australian support centre I've heard nothing to explain the problem or how I can resolve it. Thanks.
