see trends longer than 1 year

There are many places in Garmin Connect to see many types of data.  For instance, go to running and see times, distances, pace etc.  Then you can select like 4 weeks, 6 months, or, at max 1 year and get a nice trend graph.  But if you want to see anything farther back than a year, you have to hit the left arrow key.  And then do it again and again and again.  I have about 8 years of data.  Why cant I just select "data for all time"?  Then I would just get a graph that shows everything.  This would be similar to the Report section where it gives numeric totals for week, month, this year, last year .......OR.......ALL TIME.  This is great, but its just a total, not a trend graph.  Is this something the developers could add?

  • Not exactly what you're looking for but https://runalyze.com is free, syncs with your Connect account, and can show you all time histograms and  trend lines for many running-related stats. As a free site, the user experience isn't great, but it does have a ton of data (including certain things that Garmin records but does not show in Connect, like avg VO2Max to 2 decimal places after every run).

  • Thanks for the info, I will check it out.  It is however a bit disappointing that Garmin connect will not do trends longer than a year.  Be great just to open GC and be able to do any custom date range you want.  I mean the data is already just sitting there ready to be used. Seems it would be so easy to modify.  I have had GC for 8 years now and the interface has not changed much at all.  I will try to find some place in Garmin where you can make a suggestion for interface improvement, although doesn't look like they have done much of anything in 8 years so not much hope.

  • OK, so set up the RUNALZE account but pretty disappointed.  I just wanted to see me entire history of various things like VO2MAX, weight, pace, etc on a single trend each.  But it will only go back five years.  I started in the spring of 2017.  So about 3 years missing.  I guess there is just no way of doing this.

  • The 5 year limitation is on Garmin's end, but there's a way around it.

The 5 year range is a Garmin API limitation
For all historical activities you need to request the backup from garmin and upload it to Runalyze: [https://runalyze.com/help/article/garmin] (Data Management)

How do I import a Garmin data backup?
To import your Garmin backup, you need to follow several steps. Extract the ZIP file you got from Garmin and open the following directory: /DI_CONNECT/DI-Connect-Fitness-Uploaded-Files/. There you will find one or more ZIP archives starting with UploadedFiles.... Upload them with the new Uploader

Afterwards you can simply select all activity files and upload them to RUNALYZE.

  • Thanks Flow for all your help on this.  I went to Garmin data export request but could not get it because the button the said "request data" just show a circle with a bar through it and would not let me click on it.  Maybe the site is having issues right now.  (Actually, I remember doing this export some years ago)..  My god would it be easier if Garmin would just let you trend your entire history.

    Will try again tomorrow.

  • No problem!

You could also try using this 3rd party export script, if you're comfortable installing and using python:
